Nobody plans their life around a fertility timeline. You might not be ready yet, or you just got a diagnosis that changed everything, or the right person hasn't come along. That's fine—but your body doesn't wait.
Fertility preservation freezes your eggs, sperm, or embryos at the quality they are right now. Use them in three years or eight. What you store today is what you get back.
At Kiran Infertility Center Delhi, we've worked with people in every situation—women buying more time, men with a concerning semen report, and couples facing cancer treatment with days to decide. We've also seen them come back, ready. Those are the appointments that remind us why this matters.
Fertility preservation is simply freezing your eggs, sperm, or embryos before age, illness, or treatment gets a chance to affect them. A technique called "vitrification" freezes the cells so fast that no damage occurs—what you store today is what you get back later, unchanged.
A woman who freezes her eggs at 29 and uses them at 38 is still working with 29-year-old eggs. That is the entire value of doing it early.
The same principle applies to sperm. Frozen sperm used a decade later perform identically to the day it was stored, provided the initial sample was of good quality and properly prepared.
Women in their late 20s or early 30s who are not ready for a baby yet, but know their egg count will not last forever
Men who got a bad semen analysis and want to bank a good sample now before things get worse
Cancer patients about to start chemo or radiation treatment can damage fertility fast, and there may not be a second chance.
IVF couples with leftover embryos from a cycle who want to store them instead of starting over later
Anyone facing surgery near the reproductive organs—ovarian cysts, testicular conditions, or similar
Transgender individuals who want to store biological material before beginning hormone therapy
• Men planning a vasectomy who want a backup stored just in case
If you are not sure whether your situation calls for this, a consultation will tell you. We do not push procedures on people who do not need them, but we also do not want anyone to miss a window that could have stayed open.
Before any treatment or preservation procedure, the most important thing is knowing where you actually stand. Guessing wastes time and money. Our andrology team runs a thorough diagnostic workup that covers:
Semen analysis — sperm count, motility across two grades, morphology, and total ejaculate volume
Hormonal blood tests — FSH, LH, testosterone, and prolactin levels, which give a clear picture of testicular function
Scrotal ultrasound — checking for varicocele, blockages, or structural problems that affect sperm production
DNA fragmentation index (DFI) — measuring the percentage of sperm with DNA strand breaks, which affects fertilization
Genetic testing — Y-chromosome microdeletion analysis and karyotyping for men with very low or absent sperm counts
Your doctor reviews your medical and reproductive history. Women get an AMH blood test and scan. Men have a semen analysis.
Daily hormone injections for 10 to 14 days. The goal is to grow multiple follicles to the right size without overstimulation.
Egg retrieval is done under light sedation. Sperm collection is done via semen sample or minor surgical extraction if needed.
Material is flash-frozen and transferred to our ICMR-compliant cryobank with 24/7 temperature monitoring.
You are notified before your annual storage renewal date. Storage can continue as long as you need under current ICMR guidelines.
When the time comes, material is thawed and the appropriate next step is recommended—whether that is IUI, IVF, or FET.
